The Circumcision Procedure in Dallas-Fort Worth
He has received training from renowned Dr. Neil Pollock at his clinics and has been certified in the use of this highly effective circumcision technique, which delivers a virtually painless procedure for babies, boys, teens, and men.
To ensure maximum comfort during the procedure, we employ a range of pain control methods including Tylenol (administered by parents or patient), sugar solution in the mouth for infants, soothing music, topical numbing cream, and a long-acting local anesthetic.

Does Comfort Procedures Dallas Use Plastibell?
No. This circumcision method is different from the Plastibell procedure in that it is faster and does not involve leaving a device attached to the penis. It can be performed on babies, toddlers, teens, and men of all ages and involves using a Mogen clamp under long-acting local anesthetic.

Our method only requires local anesthetic and has a relatively quick recovery time. It has been proven safe over the past 25 years and 50,000 operations, which is why many doctors refer their patients to our clinic.

Baby Circumcision – Step by Step
To minimize discomfort during the infant circumcision procedure, it is best to feed your son just before bringing him into the office so that he will not be overly hungry while waiting. If your baby is hungry when you arrive, you can feed him at any time during your visit.
During the procedure, you will be present the whole time and our doctor will take good care of your son.
The visit to our Richardson circumcision clinic will take just over an hour, and we strive to make that time as pleasant as possible by taking the following steps to minimize discomfort.
Baby Tylenol Just Before You Come to the Clinic
Give your son Infant Tylenol (also called acetaminophen) about an hour before the procedure. Please follow the dosing instructions printed on the box.
Anesthetic Cream to Numb the Skin
To minimize discomfort during the circumcision procedure, we will apply topical anesthetic to your child’s penis in our office. This is a cream that numbs the skin and helps to reduce pain. This is the second step we take to ensure maximum comfort during the procedure.
Pain Blocking Injection – Local Anesthetic
After the skin has been numbed with topical anesthetic, your son will receive an injection called a dorsal penile ring block into the soft tissue next to the penis. Our doctors use a combination of short- and long-acting anesthetic for this injection, which provides both comfort during the procedure and coverage for several hours afterwards.
Since the skin has already been numbed with the topical anesthetic, the injection is hardly felt. After about 7-8 minutes, the penis will be fully numb and the circumcision can be performed.
Sugar Pacifier During the Brief Circumcision Operation
During the injections and circumcision, your son will be given a sugar pacifier to suck on. After about 7-8 minutes, the penis will be fully numb and the circumcision can proceed.
To further enhance comfort, soothing music will be played, the room temperature will be increased, and your son may continue to receive sugar pacifiers. Studies have shown that sweet flavors can help to distract babies and reduce their perception of pain.
Caring Team Always Available
The circumcision itself only takes a few minutes, but we ask that you plan to be at the clinic for about one hour in total so that we can thoroughly review post-procedure care with you and answer any questions you may have before you take your child home.
We understand that safety is a top priority for parents and want to provide reassurance. Your doctor will be available by phone on their private direct number after the procedure and you will be given their contact information so you can reach them directly with any concerns.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns after the circumcision. Please also visit the After Circumcision page for full detail on what to expect after your son’s procedure.
The Penis Before & After Baby Circumcision
The three images below show the change in your baby boy’s penis brought about by circumcision.
Our Circumcision Method and Pain Control Approach
Dr. McAuliff uses the Mogen technique for circumcision, which is known for its speed and safety. In addition, our doctor employs the most comprehensive pain control methods available to ensure minimal or no pain for your son. Our goal is to minimize stress for the infant and family through effective pain management and a quick and straightforward procedure.
Methods used by other Texas circumcision doctors
At Comfort Procedures Richardson, our clinic is committed to providing the safest, quickest, and most gentle circumcision procedure for newborn babies and infants. Other doctors and clinics may use different techniques, and here are a few examples of the more common methods used by physicians in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of circumcision types and is only meant to provide examples of alternate methods.
The Gomco Clamp – Not used at Comfort Procedures
This is a commonly used technique by general practice doctors who are not specialized in circumcision. It takes longer to perform and involves more manipulation of the tissue. The procedure involves compressing the foreskin for five minutes before making an incision.
The clamp is left in place until the tissue has had a chance to clot, then the foreskin is cut off using a scalpel. The clamp’s base and bell are then removed from the penis. The clamp must be thoroughly sterilized before it is used in surgery. Our clinic does not use this method.
The Plastibell – Not used at Comfort Procedures
At Comfort Procedures, we use a specialized technique known as the Mogen method for circumcision. This method is known for its speed and safety, and our doctors use comprehensive pain control techniques to ensure minimal or no pain during the procedure. Our goal is to minimize stress for both the infant and the family by providing maximum pain control and a quick and simple procedure.
In contrast, some other clinics may use methods such as the Gomco clamp or the Plastibell device, which can be longer procedures and may require the use of a device that remains on the baby’s penis for up to a week. We do not use these techniques at our clinic.
